WELCOME FROM THE CHAIRPERSON

John Dorris, 2008 / 2009 Chairperson

Welcome to Section 1101 of the American Society for Quality (ASQ)! As current chairman of our section, I invite you to contact me to become an important part of this professional association. The Chattanooga Section of ASQ is dedicated to the development, exchange and transfer of principles and practices of Quality concepts to ASQ members, Chattanooga area communities, businesses, industries, and education facilities. Our membership represents areas of manufacturing, government, healthcare, services, education & other industries. We also maintain a strong Section Staff that is committed to making the Section successful, and a “Value Add” to our Community.

ASQ’s national headquarters is in Milwaukee, WI and the organization began about the end of World War II to use the techniques learned during wartime in manufacturing. Globally, ASQ is in more than 100 countries and has a membership of more than 100,000 strong with 10,000 of them international members. ASQ realizes in order to meet the needs of companies worldwide that they must build alliances with other comparable organizations. Check out the national website at for more information.

Locally, ASQ partners with ASNT (American Society Non-destructive Testing), AFS (American Foundry Society), Cleveland/Bradley Chamber of Commerce Quality Council and the Chattanooga Engineering Club in activities throughout our year, which runs from September through May. Our yearly schedule is determined by the board of directors in the summer prior to the beginning of the year and usually includes one tour per year as well as speakers. This year we have added a contest for students during E-Week to encourage students in the area of technology. Our location changes, but our regular meetings are held at the Out of Blue Café which is in the river park off Amnicola Highway.

Come join us at one of our monthly meeting or just join the national association of ASQ and become part of our group.
